Call for Submission:

We are excited to announce that we are now open to submissions. At Griots Lounge Publishing Canada, we are looking for various genres of literature. We do not set limitations as we understand how large the sky is as an avian abode. However, we are looking for stories that are true and authentic even as they are sometimes fictional. We are looking for works where language is king, works that understand that the literary is art. Does your manuscript tell compelling stories about the African and Canadian identities (interpret this as liberally as possible) and experiences? Does it let us see the world from another angle, deepen our understanding of what it means to be human, or widen our horizon of thoughts? Then we are here to let the world read you!

Be mindful of the following criteria:

  1. Originality: We are looking for your original works. That is to say that we do not publish previously published works. That is to say that we do not condone any sort of plagiarism. We also do not want to read words strung together by an AI bot. We believe humans write better stories in better ways and we know this to be a fact. However, we may consider adaptations when they are well done.
  2. Language: While we continue to serve wider audiences even while paying special attention to the African experience in this submission period, we can only accept manuscripts written in English at the moment. That does not disqualify manuscripts where occasionally languages other than English are used, say in dialogues and others.
  3. Nationality: We are looking for African and Canadian stories told by Africans. Africans in Canada and Africans all over the world are invited to submit. We understand that sometimes these identities can be problematic to define. Who is African, is a valid question to ask. Here, we attempt to define an African as someone who is native to Africa, a descendant of these natives, someone who traces their ancestry to indigenous inhabitants of Africa and identifies with and as them, and any bonafide citizen of an African country. Remember, this is only but an attempt. If you have claims to an African identity not captured here, we still want to hear you.
  4. Genre: Fiction (Novels and Short Stories), Children’s Book, Poetry. Like already stated, there is no limit to what can be explored within these genres. We just want the narratives to be authentic and compelling.
  5. Formatting: For legibility we favour 12 fonts with double spacing for any of Garamond or Times New Romans. However, the author may decide which formatting is best for their manuscript, especially poetry manuscripts. Once it is legible, we are good to go.
  6. Word Count: We are looking for full length works, not novellas or chap books.
  7. Deadline: 31st October, 2024.

Please give us 8-9 weeks after submission before querying. We hope to respond within that time frame.

All submissions should be sent to [email protected].

Subject of email: [Author Name], [Genre], and [Title].

We look forward to reading you and success.
